Where does the marine scent come from?

The marine scent in perfumery does not come directly from seawater, but from an olfactory reconstruction. To create this airy, iodine-infused sensation, perfumers notably use a molecule called Calone.

Discovered in the 1960s and popularized in the late 1980s, Calone has a scent that is at once marine, ozonic, and slightly watery. It recreates the impression of sea air, ocean spray, and saline freshness.

Combined with notes of seaweed, driftwood, white musks, or citrus, it forms oceanic accords that evoke horizon and freedom. In Aqua Motu, it is integrated into a more solar and textured structure, offering an interpretation of the sea that is both fresh and warm.
